I have questions about waxing, when can I ask them?

You are always welcome to ask any questions you like, before, during, or after the waxing treatment. Do not be shy. I love when my clients ask me questions. The more you know, the easier and more understandable the procedure is. The fear of unknown is gone. The waxing experience becomes simpler and calmer as you understand the science and biology behind it.

What is waxing?

Waxing is a non-permanent hair removal method that removes hair from the root using a soft wax or hard wax. A thin layer of wax is spread over the skin and a pelon strip is pressed on top and pulled off in a quick action against the direction of hair growth. Using hard wax, the semi-harden strip of waxis pulled off in a swift motion against the direction of hair growth.

What to expect during a waxing?

STEP 1: Client Safety First! ALWAYS!

An antiseptic lotion will be applied to cleanse the area first. This is a very important step in skin preparation before waxing. The antiseptic lotion removes skin oils; perspiration, bacteria, and all kinds of debris from the skin, leaving it clean, sanitized and ready for next step.

STEP 2: The hair length and direction of the hair growth is examined. This is a crucial, as it will assure that all the hair is removed with the root and there is no hair breakage caused by an incorrect waxing angle.

STEP3: A touch of Orange oil is applied to the skin. The Orange oil acts like a barrier between the skin and the wax. The Orange oil allows the wax to attach to the hair only and not the skin itself. This eliminates the heavy stinging associated with using powder before the wax. Only the most modern waxes can be used with oil. The old school waxes still use powder, making the waxing experience face cringing.

STEP 4: If soft wax is being used, the warm wax will be spread on the hairs in a thin layer, using a single use wooden spatula. This prevents microbial cross-contamination from client to client.  A white pellon (cloth like) strip is then applied to the wax, and rubbed in the direction of hair growth. The strip is then pulled quickly in the opposite direction of hair growth while the skin is held taut with the other hand.

If hard wax is being used, a thicker amount of warm wax is applied and allowed to dry. No pellon strip is applied. The wax is flicked to allow the therapist to grip it, and it is then pulled off quickly in the opposite direction of hair growth, effectively removing the hair

STEP 5: A Calming mist is applied as an astringent to sooth the skin, close all the pores, hydrate the skin and diminishes the redness. Closure of the pores after waxing, prevents bacteria entering the open pores and causing breakouts or inflammation!

STEP 6: Your skin is cleansed again to remove any wax residue, with a gentle SKIN wax remover.

STEP 7 A gentle, cooling Aloe Vera gel is applied to the skin to sooth, hydrate, calm and protect.

How long does the hair have to be, before I wax?

The hair should be closer to 1 cm for the first few waxes. Once the hair becomes finer it can be waxedat a shorter length. If your hair is longer e.g. in the “Brazilian region”, I recommend shaving the area and booking your waxingappointment ahead, two to three weeks later. This will prevent you from any unnecessary discomfort during waxing, but will not affect the hair itself at this point. If you choose not to shave, we can trim it in the salon to the proper length here at the salon, at no extra charge.

How often do I need to wax?

For best results, wax every 4-5 weeks. That is once a month or only 12  x per year. If you are a regular waxer, your hair growth will diminish, as a result will put your services will become less frequent at  every 5-6 weeks , which will bring you to 9-10 waxes per year! How awesome is that?

How long before the hair grows back after waxing?

After a client’s first wax, the results can last 3 to 6 weeks depending on the individual’s hair re-growth. In most cases, hair growth is minimal during the first week or two and noticeably increases in the third and fourth week. Please do not wait past week 5. The waxing experience becomes less comfortable after week 5. The longer you leave between waxes, the more uncomfortable it becomes.

How long will it take to have a smooth skin after waxing?

After your first wax it may take 3-5 waxing sessions, performed every 4 weeks to achieve all the smooth look and feel you desire.

Why do I have to wait few sessions before I am truly smooth?

Imagine your hair as trees growing in a forest. Some hair are mature and tall (long hair), others are medium height (short hair) and then some others a tiny, just coming through your skin while there are still some hair that just have begun growing, right below the skin. The lengths and the stages of hair growth are random and uncontrolled. Mother Nature is in charge here. However, if you wax, diligently ever 4 weeks, the hair growth cycles will eventually synchronize, allowing the removal of all the hair all at the same time. Your skin will be smooth and bare.

Why can’t I have smooth skin, if I only wax when I need to and not on a schedule?

If you wax only now and then or as needed, (e.g. before major events), you will NOT achieve the desired smoothness. It is impossible. Your hair is not on a regular ”scheduled” hair growth pattern as determined by routine monthly waxing.

However, you will have the clean appearance as desired for a coupe of weeks.

Is waxing a permanent form of hair removal?

No. But you should expect thinning of growth over time with regular waxing. After just few regular waxing sessions your treatments will become less frequent as you will not need to come as often as when you first start waxing.

Will waxing make my hair grow faster stronger, thicker darker coarser?

This concern mostly comes up just before upper lip wax. The answer is ABSOLUTELY NOT! You have been genetically pre-determined (thank your ancestors) with the number of hair follicles, hair thickness, colour and texture. Waxing does not change your genetics. It does not make you grow more hair follicles, thicker hair, or darker hair. In fact, if you become a regular waxer, you will notice that your hair will become quite sparse , thinner , lighter , less visible.

The only things known to stimulate hair growth are hormones: natural or artificial.

What is the best, most efficient way to remember to wax appointment?

Always reschedule your visits at the end of your waxing session.

Life “happens” to all of us: unexpected events, kids, work meetings; coffees with friends, family events – we all have experienced these little last minute surprises. If the appointment is in your calendar you are more likely to schedule other events around it and not the other way. Rescheduling your appointments, will assure that you always are well groomed and look your very best.

Do you send out wax appointment reminders?

The appointment reminders are send out by Waxing Ninja via SMS ,1-2 days ahead of your booked time. A confirmation of YES or NO is required by 9 pm on the same day as the reminder was send.

If cancelling the wax appointment, you do not need to provide an explanation. A simple NO is sufficient.

If no confirmation is received by 9 pm, your time slot will be assigned to the next client, so please remember to answer Waxing Ninja’s SMS.

We always look forward to seeing you!

How long does a Brazilian take?

The Brazilian wax by Waxing Ninja takes about 15-20 min for women and 30-45 min for men. Each appointment includes pre-treatment consultation and post treatment instructions.

At Waxing Ninja, Sylvia has perfected her female Brazilian technique to 10 “pulls” of wax. That’s it! This technique truly minimizes your discomfort, and the duration of the procedure to 10-15 min. For men it is a 30-45 min procedure as the waxing is more intricate.

Why Waxing Ninja uses Aloe Vera gel after waxing and not a moisturizer like other waxing salons?

Aloe Vera is a major medicinal plant when it comes to treating, protecting, hydrating, and soothing an irritated skin. The Aloe Vera gel is light and non-comedogenic , meaning ,it will not block your pores, unlike standard moisturizers used in many other salons. The new hair growth will NOT be  prevented or inhibited by clogged pores. This minimizes the potential for ingrown hair and post wax skin inflammation. Aloe Vera gel lightens the dark skin blemishes due to inflammation caused by ingrown hair e.g. in the intimatearea. It has anti-inflammatory and cooling properties, help the skin heal more rapidly. As amoisturizer, it softens the skin and does not leave a greasy film on your face or body. Aloe penetrates the epidermis (the outer layer of skin) 4 times faster than water. It improves the skin’s natural firmness and keeps the skins hydrated.

Other moisturizers:

Frequently a low grade moisturizer used in a post wax procedure will contain a mineral oil, petrolatum or other derivatives that are occlusive – IT DOES block the open pores increasing the risk of acne and blackheads and ingrown hairs.

Mineral oil is colorless and odorless oil that’s made from petroleum— a by-product of the distillation of petroleum to produce gasoline. It’s long been used as a common ingredient in lotions, creams, ointments, and cosmetics. It it’s not doing anything for your skin. It’s not infusing it with nutrients. It’s not providing hydration that actually goes into the skin where it counts. It’s just sits on the top of the skin as synthetic film with no advantages to the waxed skin whatsoever.

Does waxing hurt?

The anticipation of potential pain is worse than feeling it.

There is only a minimal discomfort but if done properly it fades away within 2-3 seconds. Every week around the world, millions of people wax: men and women alike, your friends, co-workers, celebrities, politicians, office workers, the guys at the gym, next-door neighbors. All these people, undergo the same process as you will and experience the same slight, short lived stinging, when waxed. However, at the end, the results speak for themselves: the clean, smooth, well-groomed, sexy feel of your skin. TRY IT! It is addictive!

Your first Brazilian wax will always stay in your memory, but if you wax regularly, it becomes easier with each treatment (if done every 4-5 weeks). As your new hair regenerates, the hair root becomes finer, thinner and less robust. It slides out of the hair follicle instead of being forcefully pulled out. You will see a tremendous difference in your waxing experience between your first and third Brazilian.

Will my hair stop growing if I wax for along time?

Your hair will decrease in the rate of hair growth, density, and quantity. At some point you may even develop skin areas devoid of any hair growth However, if you stop waxing Mother Nature will reclaim your body and new hair will appear at some point in time

Why does it take three waxing cycles to hurt less and grow less hair?

Hair grows in three stages. Waxing only really pulls the hair in one of those stages. The recommended waxing cycle (every 4 weeks) is based on these stages. Each time you wax, you are trying to get the hairs in the one stage. With most people, that’s three or four wax cycles.

What is Brazilian waxing?

Brazilian waxing is almost the new standard of personal grooming among men and women around the world.

Many people are familiar with bikini waxing, which removes pubic and leg hair that would otherwise show when a bathing suit is worn. Brazilian waxing got its start with the daring bathing suits worn by both sexes on Brazil’s s beautiful beaches. It is now common, all around the world and is preferred by many for the sleek feeling it provides.

The Brazilian waxing treatment involves waxing off all pubic and labial hair from front to back for women and all genital hair for men, including the hair on the penis and scrotum. A full Brazilian wax involves the removal of all genital hair. You can also request a variation on the standard Brazilian if you prefer to leave a small amount of hair e.g. G- string.

If I wax my facial hair, will it grow back thicker?

No, that is a myth. You have been genetically pre-determined with the number of hair follicles, hair thickness, colour and texture. Waxing does not change your genetics. It does not make you grow more hair follicles, thicker or darker hair. In fact, if you become a regular waxer, you will notice that your hair will become quite sparse, thinner , lighter , less visible.

What is the difference between bikini wax, advanced bikini ,G-string/landing strip and Brazilian wax?

BIKINI  – aka X Bikini Wax. It removes whatever would show if you were wearing a traditional bathing suit.

ADVANCED BIKINI – aka XX Wax. It removes whatever would show if you were wearing a traditional bathing suit and about an inch ,inside your panty line.

G-STRING /LANDING STRIP –Removes everything ( including inner bottom) leaving only a landing strip on the top area.

BRAZILIAN WAX –aka XXX Wax. All hair is gone! Front and inner bottom.

Can I shave between visits?

Please do not shave between waxing appointments! It disrupts the hair growth cycle resulting in more hair and bigger roots at your next appointment. More hair with bigger roots means greater discomfort for you.

Can I wax while pregnant?

Yes, but please understand when pregnant your sensitivity becomes heightened.

How can I maintain my bikini area between waxing?

With Waxing Ninja’s  special “touch up” service, because we know that you want to look great all the time. Just schedule your touch up service 14-21 days after your last waxing service or when your hair is at least 1 cm long.

Do your bikini waxes include the area between the buttocks?

Only G-String/ Landing Strip and Brazilian wax, include an inner bottom wax.

First, our menu is à la carte — meaning that you can mix and match to create the bikini that suits your individual taste. Second, we don’t think you should pay for something that you might not necessarily want or need. Not every client is interested in an Inner Bottom wax or needs one every time they wax.

Can I wax after sunburn?

At Waxing Ninja, the safety of our clients is the first and foremost concern. A sunburnt skin is a contraindication to waxing.(This means a big NO!) There is an increased chance of skin irritation, abrasion, and hyperpigmentation or even scarring. It doesn’t matter what kind of wax the therapist uses, as all waxes will further irritate and damage your skin. A good skin care therapist should refuse to wax you and instead will have you rescheduled.

For a full list of contraindications (circumstances in which waxing is medically prohibited, as it may cause harm to a client) please see Waxing Contraindications link on this page. Your health and safety is important to us.

Will waxing make me red, and how long will the redness last?

There are 2 major reasons why your skin becomes red during and after waxing:

1) Since the wax needs to be warm in order to flow onto your skin properly, the heat of the wax will cause a certain amount of redness. Heat causes the blood vessels to dilate and more blood to flow into that area. The increased blood flow causes your skin to turn red. The body does this because increasing the blood flow is a way of dissipating heat. Cooling down your skin with soothing Aloe Vera Gel will cause the blood vessels to shrink, thereby removing some of the redness.

2) When hair is removed from the root during waxing, your body “views this as an assault”. In response, your body’s immune system kicks in and you start producing histamine. Histamine is produced within the cells at the site of the trauma. The effect of histamine is to cause the blood vessels to dilate, increasing blood flow to the area and the skin to turn red. It is common, therefore, to expect a certain amount of redness immediately following waxing from the histamines you produce.

In our bodies, we have a natural compound that stops the action of histamines. It is called cortisol. It is produced by the adrenal glands, which are activated by stress. If your body perceives that pulling out the hair is stressful, it will first produce histamines within the cells of the affected area, and then produce cortisol in the adrenal glands to counteract it. Obviously, the cortisol production will lag behind the histamine production since the body wants to give the histamines a chance to do their job before they are sent home, so to speak.

How much histamine you produce, how much cortisol you produce, and how quickly you produce the cortisol all work together to determine how long your skin will stay red after waxing. That is why it takes anywhere from 15 min to few hours for your skin to return to its natural color.

I seem to break out after wax, why?

In a few cases people will have such a strong histamine reaction that they break out in welts or hives. Each follicle will swell like it was a mosquito bite (which itself is nothing more than a strong histamine response to the mosquito venom). If this happens to you, I recommend stronger anti-histamine in the form of Hydrocortisone lotion. It can be purchased at our salon.

Will taking a Panadol/Advil reduce the pain of waxing?

Ibuprofen, acetaminophen, and aspirin all share a common method for reducing pain. They all suppress the production of prostaglandin, a hormone that is closely associated with inflammation and long-term pain.

But waxing does not cause pain that lasts a long time. Typically, the pain of hair removal only lasts a couple seconds and then diminishes on its own.  The pain doesn’t last long enough for prostaglandins to be produced in significant amounts. In other words there is not enough of Prostaglandin (pain hormone) produced by your body for the analgesic to work on.

Why does waxing sting?

The pain of waxing is caused by the sudden movement of hair that happens when we remove it by pulling it out by the root. Nerves that are clustered around the base of each follicle register this movement and send a strong signal to the brain. It is the strength of this signal that causes it to be interpreted as pain. The pain is immediate but short-lived.

It is nerve stimulation that causes the pain of waxing, not prostaglandin. Therefore, taking an analgesic that suppresses prostaglandin will not diminish the pain that is felt when hair is removed

Will waxing hurt?

When professionally done the pain is minimal, but you have to be realistic, we are taking the hair out by the root. The second time that you wax it will be a lot more comfortable. Another way to explain this is that, the first time you wax, the hairs are fully-grown and have a pretty strong grip. The second time that you wax, it is all baby hairs that are being pulled out, and they are not as strong, so they slide out a lot easier. You will feel the difference between your first, second and third Brazilian wax.

Do you have to be a certain age to wax?

At Waxing Ninja we will perform bikini waxes and other skin care procedures on teens 12-16 years old with a signed parental permission.

Mums, if you want to bring a really young girl in to wax and she does “not” want to wax, we will “not” wax her. We will only wax people who want to be waxed.

No intimate waxing will be performed on boys younger than 18 years old, even with parental consent.

Is it normal to get a bruise when you bikini wax?

If you are getting bruised during your wax, the person waxing you is not pulling your skin taunt enough. I have performed over 10,000 Brazilian waxes in my career as a skin care therapist and can tell you no, it is not normal but sometimes it can happen. If so, the bruising will disappeartypically within 24 -48 hrs.

How long will a wax last?

Everybody grows hair differently due to genetics, diet, health, or a season in the year. Wax will last for two weeks for a very clean look. Three to four weeks is the average time in between waxing. The more you wax, the longer it will last.

How long do I wait between waxes?

Usually 3-4 weeks depending on how quickly or slowly your hair grows. Usually hair grows slower in winter months and faster in the summer months (so you would need to come in more frequently.)

Will the same person wax me every time I come to Waxing Ninja Studio?

At Waxing Ninja all your waxing appointments will always be scheduled with Sylvia. You will not be faced with a different therapist every time you come for a wax. It can disconcert and upsetting to have a different person performing intimate waxing.

By the way, Sylvia is an expert in Brazilian waxing for men

Do women really get their whole face waxed? And why would they do that?

Yes, there are women out there, who do not like the hair or fuzz on their face, we remove it all. It will last for up to 6 weeks and you save money when you do it all. It is really getting to be quite popular to have this done, especially during and after menopause. You cannot do this if you are on any acne medications or using chemical peels or Retinol on your face. Also, if you have a tendency toward acne you will break out. If you are planning on getting married or have a special event to go to, DO NOT wax your face for the first time. You never know what kind of reaction you will have; it is not the time to experiment. I have your best interests at heart

If I wax my facial hair, will it grow back thicker?

No, that is an old wise tale! However if you shave, then yes it will.

Why do I break out after I wax?

There are a couple of reasons why you may possibly have a breakout after waxing. After the hair is pulled out, the sebaceous gland (oil gland) becomes over stimulated and causes a pimple like reaction. Think about it, your body does not know that you wanted the hair out; all it knows is that it is hurt. Your skin will react to what it thinks is a hurt. Usually the skin will start producing skin cells (to mend the hurt) which start blocking the hair follicle and that is, what causes the bumps. Another reason is that if there is already bacteria present in the surface of the skin, that may enter an open hair follicle. If you wax again within 30 days you probably will not have a second reaction because your skin has been there, done that. If you have any kind of problem, come back and see me right away. Also, if you have a bad reaction from some place else I will gladly take you in for a free consultation.

What kind of wax do you use?

At Waxing Ninja we use the exceptional, high end, range made by Adam & Eve.

These waxes are specifically designed for the most sensitive skin.

I have tested on myself many different waxes made in Australia which have their good and weak points. I have selected Adam and Eve: Angelic Wax, because of its superb hair removal abilities while beingvery sensitive to the skin. All products that are being used at Waxing Ninja have been tested and undergone my own strict scrutiny. If, a product does not pass with flying colours it is not good enough for my clients, hence it will not be used in at Waxing Ninja

Why should I wax instead of doing a laser?

The fact is that there is no such thing as permanent laser hair removal,

as of right now there is only permanent hair reduction. It has not been perfected yet. Only light skin, dark haired people qualify for laser treatments. Then laser only works on 25% of the people who have it done, the other 75% have to keep having the treatments done over and over again and will never lose all of their hair. A lot of my clients who have had this done are back to waxing 6-12 months later. It will however thin your hair out and make waxing easier.

I have recently had a gender change; can I get wax services at Waxing Ninja?

We welcome everyone: straight, gay, transgender …everyone! You will not see any silly, immature attitudes towards your lifestyle. This is your life , YOUR rules!

How can I not be embarrassed letting someone I don't know wax me?

If this is your first time, Sylvia will explain the entire procedure to you, step by step, before the service begins. Meanwhile, she also will help you to calm your fears and doubts. Keep in mind; you have to have a SENSE of HUMOUR when doing your Brazilian wax! -LOL Seriously!

Brazilian Waxing at Waxing Ninja is a very clean and almost clinical service. We do not judge or compare body parts- in the end, we all look the same!

We take pride in making you feel very comfortable and relaxed during your waxing procedure.

How much does Brazilian waxing hurt?

There is a great myth surrounding Brazilian waxing that it is so painful that people scream. Not true. That’s something you see in comedy sketches and over exaggerated YouTube videos, but that is NOT what happens in the waxing studio. I’m not saying it doesn’t hurt a little at the instant the hair is removed, but it is short-lived and fairly minor in the big scheme of things. If waxing is the biggest pain you ever experience, consider yourself lucky.

Is there such a thing as getting waxed for free? Dare I ask!

You bet! We are always looking for internet, radio, television, newspaper, or magazine exposure. Be directly responsible for getting us an interview and we will reward you with any, yes I did say ANY waxing for a full SIX MONTHS! The mere fact that we don’t double dip wax is news worthy! For that matter there isn’t a lot of places that will do full body waxing on men. Guys don’t even know that there are places to get waxed and media exposure gets  malewaxing into the lime light. Give Sylvia a call 0434 882821!

Can I tan or go to the beach after my service?

To prevent burning or discoloration of your skin you must allow at least 24 hours after a wax service before going into the sun.  The topmost layer of dead skin that protects skin from burning rays of the sun is removed during waxing.

How can I tell if I'm being double dipped?

Go to your wax person for a wax and just watch. If you don’t hear the wax stick being thrown away into a trash-can after every application, they are double dipping. Setting the wax stick on top of the pot after applying it on you is double dipping. Again, just go in for your wax and watch what they do. If they do double dip, LEAVE!!!

Why people do a Brazilian wax?
  • It helps control odors, it allows you to keep yourself cleaner after using the toilet.
  • Eliminates friction against clothing, especially if you are an athlete.
  • Eliminates the pain when removing a support tape from your ankles or shoulders after playing sports.
  • Enhances sexual experience.
  • Looks clean, smooth , young and attractive.
  • Just because YOU want to, for yourself.
  • For men and women after 40, eliminates the unsightly appearance of grey hair.
  • Clean, light, fresh feeling.
  • No “Peekaboo hairs” when going to the beach or the pool.
  • Work requirement: e.g. modeling, acting, dancing.
  • Fast, low maintenance once a month as opposed to daily shaving.
  • Lingerie, bikinis do require regular grooming
  • This in not 1970’s where hair was all the rage (have you latelyseen any adult movies from that era???) YUK!
  • You are hairless for longer period of time
  • Hair will not grow as thick and dense after a while.
  • Does not take much effort for you, you just need to show up for your appointment.
  • Not stubble.
  • No itching.
  • More precise than shaving
  • No razor cuts or burns.
How long should I wait to wax if I have shaved?

Please allow your hair to grow for a minimum of 10-14 days before waxing.

How can maintain my waxed skin between waxing services?

Exfoliate. To improve waxing results and reduce your chances of getting ingrown hairs. It is recommended that a few days prior to, and after your waxing appointment, you gently exfoliate the skin. You can exfoliate as much as 5 times a week. Removing dead skin cells keeps your skin healthy, soft in-between waxing, while preventing ingrown hair.

Moisturize. To keep skin hydrated and smooth while helping new hairs to reach the surface of the skin without becoming ingrown, moisturize daily with Aloe Vera Gel. Avoid heavily scented creams, lotions, or moisturizers. They can clog your pores.

What type of waxes do you use.

To remove hair, at Waxing Ninja we use:

Hard wax known as hot wax or stripless waxand the soft wax aka strip wax.

What is the difference between hard wax and soft wax?

A: Hard wax is spread thickly onto the skin and allowed to dry slightly before it is gently peeled away. This method is far less painful than most and pulls hair directly from the roots. The benefits include fewer in-grown hairs, less breakage and therefore longer re-growth periods. This wax also promotes skin hydration and is highly recommended for sensitive areas. Soft wax is recommended for thicker/less sensitive skin, for example – legs, arms, back, chest, and shoulders. A thin layer of wax is applied to the skin and is then removed using a paper strip.

How do I take care of my skin after wax?

Keep the waxed area clean, and avoid heat and friction during the next 24 hours. This means:

No hot baths or showers (warm water only).

No saunas, hot tubs or steam treatments.

No tanning (sunbathing, sunbeds or fake tans).

No sport, gym work, or other exercise.

Avoid scratching or touching the treated area with unwashed hands.

Avoid swimming in chlorinated pools.

Do not apply deodorants, body sprays, powders, lotions, or other products to the area, other than those recommended by your esthetician for 24 hours.

Should I wax before or after spray tan?

Always wax at least 24 hrs. before a spray tanNOT after or on the same day.

A Wax will always remove your spray tan, with no exception, consequentlyrevealing your natural skin color

Why should I wax after a spray tan not before?

Getting a spray tan the same day as waxing is a serious DON’T. You will want to give your skin about 24 hours to recover before having your tan done to avoid an uneven look. Giving you skin time to bounce back from bumps and irritation ,will allow you to get the perfectly even tan. When you get a tan directly after waxing, say in the same appointment time, you will end up with a tan that looks a bit patchy, uneven, and dotty – far from ideal. In other words, just don’t do it!

Should I wax at a nail salon?

Never! The nail salon technicians are trained experts in nail technology and not professional hair removal. They are operating outside the scope of their practice.

Secondly, double dipping (using the same stick to apply wax) runs rampant in nail salons. If the paper towel on which you rest your hands while doing manicure is NOT changed for every client, what makes you think they follow sanitation procedures behind closed doors?

In the interest of cutting cost,a single disposable spatula used on multiple clients contaminates the wax with bacteria, viruses. Would you know how many clients and intimate skin areas did that spatula touch or went into the wax before you?

Poor salon sanitation practices and policies: grimy, soiled wax pots, no disposable, individual bed sheets for each client, no skin cleansing from sweat and bacteria.Improper waxing and sanitation procedures and techniques will cause redness, scarring, ingrown hairs, bumps, and worst of all…infection.

What's the difference between an eyebrow tidy and an eyebrow shaping?

An eyebrow tidy removes hair from above, below, and between the eyebrows, but doesn’t alter the shape of your natural brow. An eyebrow shaping changes the shape of your brow to compliment the shape of your face. An eyebrow shaping typically requires puttinga some degree of an arch in the brow.

Do you offer "in-between" waxing services?

Yes , at  Waxing Ninja we offer 3 types of “in between “ waxing  services:

  1. First time or as needed waxing service at a regular price.
  2. Every 4-5 weeks Maintenance Wax for regular clients
  3. A Touch Up Wax 2-3 weeks for the constant smooth look
Will I be red after my service?

Most clients show some reaction after a wax service. Typically all these signs go away overnight.

Will you trim my bikini?

No. The reason? Hygiene. Many salons use an electric buzzer to trim the bikini area. Guess what? There is NO WAY to sanitize an electric buzzer. No matter what they tell you, even if you put a plastic sheer cover at the end. You can’t submerge an electric buzzer in disinfectant (which is the only way to kill germs) as it will get wet and not work or electrocute somebody.

Am I too old to get waxed?

There is no age limit, but skin condition and medical history is taken into consideration.

Do you offer waxing services for men?

Yes, we offer a full service-waxing menu from eyebrows to toes and ALL in between. Brazilian waxing for men, is the most requested service for men at Waxing Ninja.

If I get ingrown hairs, what should I do?

You should use a product specifically designed for attacking ingrown hairs on the waxed area three to four times a day for up to three to four days consistently. You shouldconsistently exfoliatethe waxed area during a shower for at least a good minute. Please wear loose cotton clothing to reduce friction against the waxed skin.

Why do guys get waxed?

Waxing for many men has become a standard grooming maintenance.

Men are paying attention to how they look and they want to feel good.

Many tattooed men wax their arms or legs to show off their ink.

Athletes wax their legs to avoid the hair being trapped in any potential wounds or cuts. It is easier and faster to clean and heal the wound when the hair is gone.

Waxing prevents the tangling of hair during a deep tissue or sports massage, which can be very painful and unpleasant.

Many professional footballers or athletes also require muscle support just to take to the field, so having clean legs reduces the pain when peeling off kilometre’s worth of sports strapping tape. (Nobody likes an impromptu waxing session after three hours of sprinting.)

In bodybuilding circlesgoing hairless reveals a greater level of muscle definition that would otherwise be blurred by dark unsightly hair.
Waxed bodies simply look better, younger, smoother and attractive
Guys usually get waxed to improve their-image and self-confidence.

Because their partners prefer the attractive, smooth look;.

Work requirements likemodeling, acting, bodybuilding, athletics, or dancing

Just because they want to!

When should you NOT wax? Or Contraindications to waxing.

Brazilian wax for men: What if I get aroused during my Brazilian Treatment?

Don’t worry. A degree of arousal is common when someone is working in the genital area. It has little to do with true arousal and more to do with adrenaline. It is all biological. In any case, once the waxing begins the sensation quickly passes. No need to worry.

I am trying to convince my boyfriend/partner/husband to wax, he isskeptical, how can I convince him?

More and more men are waxing and there is good reason for it. They know their bodies look better when bare. Their muscles look more refined and older men tend to look younger with less excess hair growth in the ears, shoulders, and nostril area. Men have also expressed that they feel cleaner and leaner with less body hair. Have him try a smaller service, like lower back or in-between the brow first. Once he feels the natural waxing experience at Waxing Ninja, we are confident that he will become a loyal fan.

What are the benefits of waxing for men?
  1. It gives them an elegant, groomed youthful appearance
  2. Full body waxing defines the musculature
  3. Less body odour – Body hair harbours odour producing bacteria and absorbs perspiration. Even after a quick shower with anti-bacterial soaps, odour will build up again. The bacteria that lives on the skin and body hair feeds of the  soils natural produced by the sebaceous glands on the body. But if the hair is removed, body odour cannot be absorbed and retained.
  4. The deodorant actually touches the skin not the hair
  5. This is beneficial during social interactions.
  6. Better performance – Full body wax male swimmers and athletes get help in their performance in sports. It is also easier to dry off after a swim. Husbands also get a boost in performance with their partners by increasing body sensitivity.
  7. Waxing removes dead skin cells – The result is a more attractive and younger-looking rejuvenated skin. Most waxes these days already come with moisturizers to help in softening the skin prior to removal. Waxing uproots the entire hair down to its root preventing stubbles to occur so there is a lesser chance of ingrown hair to appear leading to infection.
  8. Hair regrowth will be finer – After waxing, hair regrows as softer and finer hair. With regular body wax for men, they will notice that hair growth will diminish slowly which may eventually lead to scanty hair growth and later, a total cessation of growth in areas that they normally wax. The constant waxing weakens the hair follicles and reduces its viability.
  9. Less pain – The more you wax, the less pain you will feel. After regular waxing sessions with expert therapists, the pain will gradually decrease.

What is a Brazilian Wax for men? What does it involve?

A Brazilian Wax for men is the depilation of all hair from the pubic region, both front and back (including the vagina, perineum and anus).

Why should I do a Brazilian wax / manscaping for men?

Harvesting an entire wilderness in your nether regions is no longer (has it ever been?) the look du jour. The social perception of unwanted hair and smooth body parts has seen a jolt since the early Nineties, and the Brazilian and Manscaping wax is fast becoming a prime part of the modern man’s grooming standard.

Plus many who have been Manscaped love the extra “optical inch” and the smooth clean feeling down under. It’s also a saving grace for men who tend to perspire more, as it reduces the intolerable mess of hair and sweat.

Will I need to undress for Brazilian wax for men?

You will need to remove your bottom apparel (yes, that includes your underwear), but a towel will be provided to shield your nether region prior to the treatment.

How long does a Brazilian Wax for men take?

A male Brazilian wax takes approximately 30-45 minutes for one treatment, depending on the amount of hair to be removed . While some like it fast, others like it slow and nurturing, just don’t be lulled into thinking that a Brazilian Wax is a massage!

Are the any health conditions that I need to disclose before the wax?

Yes, Please inform our Customer Relations Officers if you have any of the following conditions:

  • Consumption or application of Accutane, Roaccutane, Retin A, Vitamin B or AHA within the past 6 months
  • Having undergone radiation treatment (e.g. UV sun tanning), electrolysis or excess sunbathing within the pas 6 months
  • Pregnancy or breast feeding
  • Having your period
  • Having given birth by natural delivery in the past 3 months, or had a Caesarean delivery in the last 6 months
  • Having undergone an operation in the last 6 month
  • Having undergone a cosmetic surgery procedure in the past month on treatment area
  • Having sunburned, wind burned, dry, chapped, irritated or broken skin or any open wounds on treatment area

Having sores, warts, ulcers, moles, birthmarks or any tattoo on treatment area

What should I do right after I get an intimate wax?

A little hydrocortisone cream might do a bikini or speedo wax good. Loose clothing, no exercise for 24 hours and be wary of hanky-panky right after waxing.

Is there anything I should NOT do before a wax appointment?

Limit the amount of caffeine or alcohol, since both can cause your skin to be dehydrated, more inflamed and more sensitive. Do not go tanning, do not soak in a hot tub, and most importantly, do not shave.

Do you do Male Brazilians?

Yes we do. We are awesome at Male Brazilian waxing and our clients know it. That is why Waxing Ninja has such a faithful male following.

Does a Brazilian Wax for men hurt?

Admittedly, there will be some discomfort, especially if this is your first, virgin experience. You never will forget your first Brazilian wax. However, the sting is tolerable and it lasts only 2-3 seconds . After that, all you will have is a smooth skin and memories.

How often can I get a Brazilian Wax for men?

You can go for a Brazilian Wax when there is approximately 6mm in hair length. This is the ideal length for an optimum wax job. Typically, most people will get a treatment done between 3 to 5 weeks after their last wax.
